A world-renowned applied physics laboratory strengthens its capacity to deliver critically needed air missile defense solutions to the government.
The Client
This organization is a non-academic government-funded nonprofit laboratory, air missile defense department within one of the nation's top universities. The lab supports national security and also pursues space science, exploration of the solar system and other civilian research and development.
The Client’s Strategic Initiative
This nonprofit research and development laboratory provides missile defense technologies to the US Navy. They seek to continue to deliver the latest technological air missile defense solutions and to broaden their role as a strategic partner with the US Navy.
The Challenge
Most of the leaders in the laboratory are physicists and engineers who spend their entire careers focused on the science and engineering of innovation without the benefit of leadership training. They recognized that in order to fulfill the goal to grow their capacity, they needed to strengthen and expand their leadership skills.
Sunergos Support
We originally delivered our core program: Performance Leadership: Achieving What Matters over an eight-month period. The program was customized to elevate leadership, align on strategies and create an environment of high-performance execution. Our work included tailoring the program to meet the specific needs of their scientific research environment and culture.
Results
All executives stated that this program exceeded their expectations by elevating their leadership skills and creating alignment regarding strategic objectives. In addition, they deepened their relationships with each other, their organizations and initiated a culture shift. The executives requested a subsequent leadership program that is currently in the process of being delivered to their key managers. They are already seeing that their expanded capacity for true leadership is also expanding their capacity to deliver solutions for a wide range of complex problems.
